About Us

The ACN provides workshops for actors and other professionals in theatre, television, film and radio to enable them to continuously maintain and develop their craft once their initial training has been completed. Areas covered include physical, vocal, studio techniques, characterisation, approaches to specific styles, genres and authors, career management. Postgraduate workshops in such skills are not run by any other educational institution in the area.

The ACN offers places on some workshops to the general public who wish to experience a range of theatre and television related techniques, or have an interest in amateur or community theatre, or simply wish to try out a skill.

The ACN caters for those living or working in the North West of England, Yorkshire, North Wales and the North Midlands. The ACN gained its independence in 1995 having previously been funded through the London Actors Centre.

The ACN is a constituted, not-for-profit arts organisation. It is a registered charity with a board of trustees which includes Mark Babych (Artistic Director Bolton Octagon Theatre), Steve Bower (Chair), Seven Communications PLC), John Griffin (Series Producer, Shameless Ch4), Janet Hampson (Producer), Gennie Radcliffe (Casting Director, GTV), Noreen Kershaw (Actor and Director), Malcolm Raeburn (Actor/ Senior Lecturer Salford University).
